Alappuzha also known as Alleppey is the administrative headquarters of Alappuzha district in state of Kerala, Alleppey is a city and a municipality in Kerala with an urban population of 174,164[2] and ranks third among the districts in literacy rate in the state. Alappuzha is considered to be the oldest planned city in this region and the lighthouse built on the coast of the city is the first of its kind along the Laccadive Sea coast.

മധ്യ കേരളത്തിലെ ഒരു നഗരമാണ് ആലപ്പുഴ. ആലപ്പുഴ ജില്ലയുടെ ആസ്ഥാനമാണ് ഇത് . ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഭരണത്തിന്റെ നാളുകളിൽ ആലപ്പുഴ അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത് ആലപ്പി എന്ന പേരിലായിരുന്നു. കിഴക്കിന്റെ വെനീസ് എന്ന് ആലപ്പുഴയെ വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്. വെനീസിലെ പോലെ തലങ്ങും വിലങ്ങുമുള്ള തോടുകളാണ് ഈ വിശേഷണത്തിന് അടിസ്ഥാനം.
