Vadakara is a Municipality in the in the state of Kerala, India. Vatakara is located between Kannur and Quilandy During the reign of the Kolathiris and Zamorins, Vatakara was known as Kadathanadu. During the British Raj, it was part of the North Malabar region of Malabar District in the state of Madras. The historic Lokanarkavu temple, made famous by the Vadakkan Pattukal (ballads of North Malabar), is situated in Vatakara.  Vatakara Railway Station is one of India's model railway stations, and is connected to all major metros and one of the top station in north Kerala after calicut and kannur.  

വടകര ഒരു നഗരസഭയാണ്,  കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ വലിയ പട്ടണമാണ്‌. വടകര എന്ന പേരിൽ ഒരു താലൂക്കും, ഒരു ലോകസഭാ മണ്ഡലവും ഒരു നിയമസഭാമണ്ഡലവും ഉണ്ട്. കോഴിക്കോട് നഗരത്തിന് വടക്ക് കോഴിക്കോടിനും മാഹിക്കും ഇടയിലാണ് ഈ പ്രദേശം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.  കേരളത്തിന്റെ പുരാണങ്ങളിൽ കടത്തനാട് എന്ന് വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത് ഈ പ്രദേശമാണ്. നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾ പഴക്കമുള്ള പുരാതനമായ താഴെ അങ്ങാടി ജുമാ മസ്ജിദും ഇവിടെ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നു.
